The saddleback, or Tīeke, is a striking bird native to New Zealand, easily recognized by the chestnut "saddle" across its back. Once widespread, it faced severe decline due to introduced predators, but conservation efforts have helped its population recover.

Saddlebacks are lively, social birds often found in pairs, with loud calls echoing through the forests. They forage on the forest floor for insects, seeds, and fruits.
