The Pukeko, or Porphyrio melanotus, is a vibrant and striking bird native to New Zealand. Recognizable by its bright blue and green plumage, with contrasting red legs and bill, the Pukeko is often seen in wetlands, marshes, and grassy areas. Known for its lively and social behavior, this bird is frequently spotted in small groups, foraging for insects, seeds, and plants.

The Pukeko is well-adapted to its wetland habitat, with strong legs for wading and a distinctive call that echoes across its territory. In Māori culture, the Pukeko is admired for its adaptability and resourcefulness.
