The Sacred Kingfisher, or Kotare in Maori, recently graced me with its presence. Just a week ago, I had the joy of spotting this stunning bird for the first time near my place. And it seems our feathered friend enjoyed the visit, as I spotted it again this morning just outside my bedroom.
This bird, with its striking turquoise-blue plumage, is the only native kingfisher species that breeds right here in New Zealand. But that's not all that makes them special! When it comes to nesting, these clever birds choose holes in trees or banks as their homes. What's truly captivating is that both the male and female actively take part in incubating the eggs and caring for the young birds when they hatch. It's a beautiful example of teamwork in the avian world and a unique treasure of New Zealand's avian world.
And speaking of treasures, I'm excited to present my Rimu earrings inspired by the beauty of these unique birds. I have both dangle and stud designs available.
